Abstract
The Social Atlas provides different maps depicting major social indicators in the Eastern Nile basin disaggregated by major political divisions in the countries. These include demographic and socio-economic topics such as population size and growth rates; unemployment; living standards (poverty headcount index, access to safe water and improved sanitation); health (life expectancy, infant & maternal mortality rate, child malnutrition, birth attended by skilled personnel, HIV/AIDS); education (adult literacy rate, primary & secondary education enrollment ratios, school drop-out rate, gender parity index). The Atlas can help increase users’ understanding of the region. However, other social indicators such as household sizes, fertility rates, income per capita, sources of income, etc. are not included.
