- PublicationEASTERN NILE POWER TRADE PROJECT Vol 2: Power Study Appendices(2008)Volume 2 consists of Module 1- 2015, 2020, 2025 & 2030 Stability Study Appendices. The reports provide the transient state stability analysis hypothesis considered, and present (mainly in charts) the results of simulations for 2015, 2020, 2025 & 2030 peak load and 2020 intermediate load periods.
- PublicationEASTERN NILE POWER TRADE PROJECT Vol 3: Preparation of Specification(2008)Volume 3 (Preparation of Specification) comprises three Modules: Module 4 includes the following documents: 500 & 400 kV AC Sub-Stations – Preparation of Technical Specifications Provides general description on the three substations (Mandaya, Kosti and Nag Hammadi) involved in the regional interconnection project between Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt. Kosti Sub-Station SVC - Preparation of Technical Specs Guideline for a turn-key specification of a complete Static Var Compensator (SVC); connected at the Kosti Substation. Telecommunication, SCADA and Metering Details the proposed design for telecommunications, metering and control systems; describes the functional aspects and the general specifications for remote and centralized supervision and control for Egypt-Ethiopia-Sudan inter-connection. 500 kV AC Lines “ Design Report Provides particular technical requirements regarding the design of the 500 kV AC overhead transmission lines from Mandaya (Ethiopia) to Kosti (Sudan). 600 kV DC Lines – Design Report Provides general technical considerations regarding the design of the 600 kV DC overhead transmission line from Kosti (Sudan) to Nag Hammadi (Egypt). HVDC Main Equipment Description Provides useful information concerning the main equipments of a HVDC station, typical HVDC losses, and a typical layout for Kosti (Sudan) and Nag Hammadi (Egypt) HVDC Stations. HVDC Preparation of Specifications Provides general description on the two HVDC stations (Kosti and Nag Hammadi) involved in the regional interconnection project. Module 5: Operation and Maintenance The purpose of this document is to introduce O&M strategy for all interconnection infrastructures located on the three countries Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan. The report is divided into four sub-modules relating to the different equipment types involved by the regional interconnection project: i) O&M for 400 and 500kV substations (including SVC); ii) O&M for HVDC converter stations; iii) O&M for Overhead Lines; iv) O&M for Control systems, SCADA and metering. Module 9: Training Final Report This document proposes the training activities for interconnection operation. It is a complementary document, in addition to the previous technical modules. The module gathers training principles for the different infrastructure parts of interconnection. The intent is to provide operational and maintenance guidelines for future operator management and staff, in order to organize training activities before and during interconnector operation. These specifications cover alternative current substations, static var compensator facility, direct current converting stations, physical transmission lines, control centers (main and back-up) equipment and system operation teams.
- PublicationEASTERN NILE POWER TRADE PROJECT Vol 1: Power Studies(2008)Volume 1 comprises Module 1 (Power Study) that incorporates several documents: 1: 2015 “ Power Study The report presents the studies of the anticipation of the interconnection between Ethiopia and Sudan in 2015 for the peak load scenario in: permanent state (normal and N -1 situation); short circuit power; and dynamic study. 1: 2020 Power Study For the peak and intermediate load situation in 2020/2021, this report presents the studies for the three countries interconnected system in: permanent state (normal and N-1 situation); short circuit power; and dynamic study. 2025 – Power Study To demonstrate that it was possible to export some 3,200 MW from Ethiopia to Sudan and Egypt, the operation of the interconnected system was simulated in year 2025 for the period of the annual peak load demand (simulations carried out in permanent and transient states). 2030“ Power Study This report presents the studies for the three countries interconnected system for the peak load situation in 2030 in permanent state, short circuit power and dynamic study. 1: 2030 Target Network This document provides the 2030 networks for each of the 3 countries: Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan. The proposed expansion plan for the countries’ systems comprises demand scenarios, generation expansion plans, generation/demand balance, hydro-power connection schemes, and transmission expansion plans. M1: DC Link Optimization The DC link considered for the study is the transmission line between Kosti (Sudan) and Nag Hammadi (Egypt). The optimization study involved selection of the DC voltage and cross-section of conductors of the DC interconnection. The optimization is based on an economic comparison between different solutions for DC voltages, HVDC stations, and overhead line conductors. Notes: i) Concerning the network, the study was based on the data collected in Phase I, and updated during a meeting held in Phase II; ii) Regarding the demand and the generation expansion plan, input data are the results of the economic study performed in Phase I.
